Four Sides of Boise - Which Side Are You On?

I like this piece first and foremost because of the colors. The pastel-colored houses and buildings convey a warm and somewhat cartoonish view of Boise. Is this the Boise of someone's sentimental childhood memories? Or is this someone's dream-like vision of a more perfect place to live right here and now? Either way it doesn't exist, even though we want it to so badly.

I also like the artist's use of bent lines, which help to reinforce the feeling that these scenes are idealized in some fashion, either by memory or by yearning. In our complex world where civilization means straight lines, this curvy world draws us in because it is so appealingly different and simple.
